Elsa Quarsell

Location
Woolwich, London UK

The work
Over a period of 2 years, Elsa Quarsell travelled around the world photographing burlesque performers in their homes. This collection of images, taken from her book of the same name, offers intimate snapshots into the humorous and beautiful world of burlesque.

By opening a window into the home life of the performance scene and these beauties' most intimnate environments (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen...) she brings fantasy and seduction to the mundane arena of the domestic.

Quarsell's stunning photographs celebrate this outbreak of erotic playfulness with wit and visual eloquence. They are gloriously sexy, but also enigmatic and with a good dash of with. You may never think of 'doing the ironing' in quite the same way again.

The artist
Elsa Quarsell is a London-based Swedish photographer. Her work has appeared in many publications including The Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Independent, Arena, Vogue and The Face.
